Maharana Pratap Sagar (also known as Pong Dam Reservoir) is a reservoir named in the honour of the patriot Maharana Pratap (1572 - 1597 AD). It is located in the Kangra district of the state of Himachal Pradesh, in India. The sagar was made a reservoir in the 1970s by the construction of a dam in a wetland zone in the Siwalik Hills at an altitude of 350 to 500 m where it is hot in the summers and mild in the winters. Surrounding the reservoir are rugged ridges and mountain streams cutting through valleys.

Rail link between Mukerian and Talwara township has been removed by the project authorities after completion of the dam. Now it is connected by road only from Mukerian.

Species found here
This reservoir was declared as a bird sanctuary in 1983. Around 220 species (belonging to 54 families) have been sighted. Black headed gulls, plovers, Northern pintail, Black stork, Goose, terns, ducks, water-fowl and egrets are some of the most common species found here. Its suitable location above the Indian Plains has made it a habitat and a stopover for the migratory birds entering from Central Asia. The land portion has barking dear, sambar, wild boars, leopards and claw-less others. The weather and the concentration of the birds is best from November to March. Monsoon rainfall is heavy and continuous from July until the end of September.

Chandra Tal is a high altitude lake which is located in Lahaul and Spiti. It is about 4,300 m above the sea level.
Location:- It is about 6 km. from the Kunzam Pass (which connects Lahaul and Spiti.)
It is surrounded by snow and scree. Chandra Tal has a circumference of about 2.5 km. It is the major source of river Chandra.

Dal Lake is a small mid altitude lake (1,775 m above sea level) near of a very beautiful village "Tota Rani" in Kangra district (Himachal Pradesh) in northern India.
The lake is surrounded by deodar trees and is considered as a sacred spot as there is small Shiva Mandir on its bank.

Nako Lake is a high altitude lake which is located in the Pooh sub-division of district Kinnaur. It is about 3,662 m above the sea level. This lake is surrounded by willow and poplar trees. It seems that the village is half buried in the lake's border. Near the lake there are four Buddhist temples. Near this place there is a footlike impression ascribed to the saint Padmasambhava.

Pandoh Dam is situated in Mandi district. This lake has been targeted at the generation of hydroelectric generation. The lake diverts the water from River Beas and pours it into the River Satluj.

Prashar Lake is a high-altitude lake located in the Mandi district, about 2,730 metres above sea level and 42 km from the main Mandi town. It is held as sacred to the sage Prashar. Near the lake is a three-tiered pagoda-like temple dedicated to Prashar.

Renuka lake is situated in the Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh in India and it is 672 m above the sea level. It is well connected by the road. It is the largest lake in Himachal Pradesh. It has a circumference of about 3214 m. This lake has been named after the goddess Renuka. Boating is also available on the lake. A Lion Safari and a zoo are also there at Renuka. It is the site of an annual fair held in November.

Sanctuary
The sanctuary is situated in Sirmour district in Himachal Pradesh. The sanctuary is well connected by the network of motorable roads. The total area of the sanctuary is about 4.028 km². The entire sanctuary is comprised of only Renuka Reserve Forest and has been declared as Abhayaranya. Also, an area of roughly about 3 km² that lies outside the sanctuary has been declared as a buffer belt.
The sanctuary falls in the bio-geographical zone IV and biogeographical province IV as per the classification done by the Wildlife Institute of India (WII). According to forest types classification, the area falls uner group 5B/C2 i.e. dry mixed deciduous forest and group 5/051 i.e. dry Sal forest.

Rewalsar Lake is a mid altitude lake located in district Mandi, and is about 1,360 m above sea level.
Location
Disatnce from main Mandi town:- 24 km.
It is shaped like a square with the shoreline of about 735 m. It is held as a sacred spot for Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists alike. The lake of Kunt Bhyog which is about 1,750 m above sea level lies above Rewalsar.

Surya Taal (also known as Suraj Taal or the Lake of the Sun God) (el. approx. 5000 m./16,000 ft.) is at the foot of Bara-lacha-la, a high mountain pass connecting Lahaul district in Himachal Pradesh to Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir. It is about 2 km downhill from the pass on the Himachal side, just by the side of the highway and is a feast to the eyes for its emerald blue water amidst the snow-capped mountains.
The Bhaga River (a tributary of the Chandrabhaga or Chenab) originates from Suryataal. The other major tributory of the Chandrabhaga, the Chandra originates from the glacier close to the Chandra Taal lake in the Spiti district.
